Notes from NomCom: Something Stupid + Creating the Title

Surprise! We created another anthology! NomCom, is an anthology of foodie romance stories set in a food park in Pasig city (oddly not too far from St. Tropez Condominium!).

There are fourteen new stories written by the amazing authors of #romanceclass and are all guaranteed to make you both kilig and hungry. I’m reading through the stories now, and I love how each story is so different but still manages to combine elements that we love—kilig, fluffy romance stories (based on very specific tropes), there’s music and of course, food. All the food.

Something Stupid

For this anthology, I wrote a short story for this anthology called “Something Stupid,” where my trope (assigned via the roleta + shuffling around of tropes among authors) was “dates everyone but you.” This was funny to me, a person who has never gone on a single date in her entire life, but I thought it would be fun to play around with!

Personally I enjoyed this odd mashup of things I was enjoying at the moment—nostalgia over trips of years past (cry), scavenger hunts because I was watching a lot of RUN BTS at the time, Philippine Native Trees and a meddlesome doctor.

And, in true Earth sign fashion, I had a lot of notes. One of the things I’ve been doing lately is documenting my works in progress via personal journal entries, Notion pages that have all the info I need when I’m writing, or sometimes, Goodnotes pages when I need to flesh out characters and pegs and other things before I start writing everything. They’ve been fun to look back on and refer to, so i thought I would share a couple of pages

NomCom: Creating the Title

I also had the opportunity to make the lettering for the NomCom! It’s fun, since I got to do the background art for the first Tropetastic story, and now doing the letter for this. I was looking at a lot of bullet journal layouts at the time, including Amanda Rach Lee’s fifties inspired spread from Youtube. So armed with that, some pegs, and a color scheme that I eventually threw out the window, I got myself together and made…even more notes, haha.

I was given a mockup of the cover, which gave me the idea of creating a very retro, 50’s diner looking title that could be both romantic and food-adjacent. I had a hard time with the title length, so I decided to play around with “Nom Com” instead. The result is a fun, funky but still very rom-com friendly title. OH, and I also made a little mockup of the sign itself, because why not.

Please don’t forget to get a copy of the anthology! It’s only up until April 14, 2022, and all proceeds of the bundle go to a really good charity that supports Philippine farmers. :) You can click on the cover image up on the blog post, or you can click here to be linked to the Gumroad page!
